II Chronicles 7:14
“…If my people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
Our nation’s morals continue to decline. The programs we watch on TV and internet promote violence, sexual depravity, and other sins. Many characters on mainstream media are things of our nightmares: walking dead, vampires, even Satan himself.
Where have our Christian values gone? When did an innocent, unborn child become a thing to be loathed? When did it become passe’ for a man to marry a woman, instead choosing another man? What does the church do but shake its head and sigh?
The church must stand together in prayer to combat evil. Yelling, complaining, standing in picket lines, throwing Bibles or Scripture at people –these are not effective ways to change the hearts of people. We find the power for change through prayer.
How should we live prayerful lives? God tells us plainly in this verse:
My people…called by My name: If Jesus is your Savior, you are His, you are called by His name.
Humble yourself: realize that all of us are subject to sin. Ask forgiveness from the Lord, repent and forgive those who offend you. Only then are you prepared to pray.
Pray, seek: the urgency of these words is better conveyed in the original Hebrew, “pray, seek, crave, and require of necessity My face.” When was the last time you were so desperate for an answer from God that you couldn’t breathe, or eat, or do any other necessity of life? That’s the kind of prayer God is talking about.
Turn from our wicked ways: What are you doing after you pray? Are you turning from your own sin? Are you making strides to live what you believe? If you are not serious about the things of God, why would He listen to your prayers and answer them?
Then I will hear: God always hears us but He has set up the way we are to approach Him for answers to our prayers. Does he answer prayers when these conditions are not met? He is a gracious God, loving, and forgiving and He answers prayers even when we approach Him in ignorance of His ways. How much more will He answer our prayers if we approach Him in truth, humility, and repentance?
Corporate prayer is one of the most powerful ways to pray and see results in our community. In Matthew 18:20, Jesus said, “Where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” The early church took Him at His word and gathered together to pray (Acts 1:14) and what was the result? Acts 2:41 says the result was 5000 souls added to the kingdom in one day! There is no reason we can’t see the same results in Gloucester County and America. When Jesus is present, nothing is impossible.
Can you pray alone? Of course, but if you want to multiply your results, join with others in corporate prayer. Leviticus 26:8 says, “Five of you will chase a hundred and a hundred of you will chase ten thousand.”
LightHouse hosts a corporate prayer meeting every Saturday morning from 7am to 8am. Come join us. Let’s pray together and see ten thousand demons leave the area!
