2 Timothy 2:2
“You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others.”
“Pass on what you have learned.” (Yoda – Return of the Jedi)
I imagine, from the writings, Paul’s circumstances in 2 Timothy are similar to the situation in which we find Yoda. In the movie Return of the Jedi, Yoda is getting ready to die. He spent time, energy, effort, and passion in training Luke Skywalker for his mission. Now the old Jedi sage tells his younger student to pass on what he has learned.
This cycle of learning and teaching is replete in our society. Our schools are based on it. Our society is centered on it. We invest so much of ourselves in learning. And eventually, we must give back our knowledge.
Those who know something are wise, or are knowledgeable, and have a responsibility to teach their knowledge. That is our commission. If Christ commands it, Paul commands it, (and Yoda commands it), it is probably something that we should always do.
Those who need a mentor, reach out for one. Those with expertise, ‘pass on’ your knowledge, reach out and teach those who need to learn. Shared knowledge keeps us alive.
