Peter the Rock

Matthew‬ ‭16:18‬
“And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.”

This interesting verse lets us listen in while Jesus talks to Peter. Jesus is encouraging Peter, telling Peter about his divine destiny. Peter would go on to be the foundation of the “church”.

Later in Acts, Chapter 2, Peter speaks to a crowd telling them about Jesus and how they can be saved. Close to 3,000 people repented of their sins, choosing to follow Christ. It’s incredible! Three thousand people were saved from the grave and the power of hell! Scripture goes on to say in Acts 2:47, “…and the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” What an amazing impact Peter had on the kingdom of God.

Just like Peter, each of us has a divine calling from the Lord…

It is our responsibility to preach the gospel to those who haven’t heard.

It is our responsibility to be the hands and feet of Christ, serving and loving our fellow man.

It is our responsibility to pray and have faith that through the Holy Spirit people will be healed. We too can have an amazing impact on the kingdom of God!

Jesus paid the ultimate sacrifice by giving up His life, and he overcame the power of hell by rising from the dead. We are no longer bound by sin when we choose to follow Christ. There is no topping the power of God! The gates of Hades cannot hold us back!

God used Peter to build the church. God uses us to continue that mission. Peter was the rock, the foundation, but we are an integral part of the structure as well, and if we choose to preach and pray like Peter did, we will continue to see the kingdom of God grow.

Remember your divine calling: to share Christ so that others can be freed from the power of hell.  I challenge you to walk out your calling daily.
